My co-teacher, Marie, and I have been reading to our super kindergarteners since Day 2. So far I have read the following books to them during storytime:
1.There was an old lady who swallowed a fly
no author listed, illustrator Pam Adams
This book is a repeated favorite. During free choice, several kids asked to hear this story again.
2.There was an Old Lady Who Swallowed a Trout! by Teri Sloat, illustrator Reynold Ruffins
The kids also enjoyed this story because the old lady did not die at the end of the story. The fly book is still their favorite...perhaps because of the rhyming and the animals involved and the illustrations.
3. The Mixed-Up Chameleon by Eric Carle
This is my favorite Eric Carle book because of all the colors and how creative the chameleon looked during all its transformations.
4.From Head to Toe by Eric Carle
The kids enjoyed all the movements.
5.The Paper Bag Princess by Robert Munsch, illustrator Michael Martchenko
6.The Pigeon Finds a Hot Dog by Mo Willems
Almost all our students love hot dogs, so they enjoyed this book! :)
I've read to the students while they sat on the blue carpet and while they sat in their seats during snack time. I think reading a story to the kids during snack time is a productive use of time. :)
